Six years ago, while residing on our Portland-area farm, I began planting seeds of a community education program that combined my passion for edible gardening with twenty-plus years experience in mindful eating education and binge eating disorder treatment. While the COVID-19 pandemic impacted my original program timeline, I’ve never stopped dreaming of growing good things in community. After several years of sharing content through various online platforms as the SAVOR Project, I’m excited to announce that the Sow to Savor program will officially launch next month.
Moving forward, here’s what to expect from the Sow to Savor program:
- Eight-week online classes, offered on a seasonal basis, in which participants learn to “amend” their soil with resilience & self-care skills; cultivate mindfulness, savoring, self-compassion, & other positive psychology practices; and nurture meaningful connections with food & nature;
- Guided food, farm, and garden tours throughout the Pacific Northwest, as a part of community education classes as well as stand-alone events; and
- Community engagement opportunities, including invitations to “Grow a Row” for our neighbors, share meals, participate in nature-themed work parties, and swap edible plants or seeds with new garden friends.
In addition, for those already working with an eating disorder treatment specialist and/or in a maintenance stage of recovery, I’ll also offer additional tips and tools to support a joyful, healthy relationship with food. Please note: while Sow to Savor may offer therapeutic benefit, the program is designed as an educational program for adults 18+ and should not serve as a substitute for medical or psychological services.
Finally, the Sow to Savor Program may complement but is not intended to replace the services provided through this small psychotherapy practice. Already working with me? Current clients receive free access to Sow to Savor program materials, which we’ll discuss and integrate into treatment as appropriate.
As always, don’t hesitate to reach out with questions about this program or my other services.
